Ai Weiwei on Alcatraz
The internationally renowned Chinese artist has taken over the main hall at Alcatraz prison with an installation of new works created specifically for the site. You’ll never look at the city’s most visited tourist site the same way again. The exhibit has been open a little over a month, and runs through April 26. Don’t miss it.

A lot of great Etsy type creations will be on display throughout the weekend at the Ft Mason Center, an excellent venue for just such an event. Over 300 maker/vendors are selling holiday-themed crafts, jewelry, furniture, housewares, etc., while food vendors Jicama and Post Street Creamery offer tasty treats. Saturday and Sunday, 11/8-9, 11am-6pm.

Jack of All Trades Indie & Craft Holiday Market The monthly maker market turns holiday themed this Saturday at its location at Jack London Square in Oakland. Besides the over 95 local vendors selling unique apparel and housewares, join in on the DIY maker classes for hand-made tips. Saturday, 11/8, 11am-5pm.

Pizzafest
It’s a festival for pizza. Need I say more? Okay, 15 chefs assemble their best creations for sampling by the people judges while the beer tent serves $3 Pyramid ales. Saturday, 11/8, 11am-3pm, Gilman/9th St, Berkeley.

Fred Lyon solo show
I was torn between this and the Robert Frank in America show at Cantor Arts Museum. But to see old photos of SF at its most mystically romantic wins out. Now 90, photographer took these shots from 1940-60, starting as a teenager from the Peninsula. Saturday, 11/8, 1-4pm, Harvey Milk Photography Center, 50 Scott St.
