Sandcastles 101
Once upon a time, I helped organize this very same AIA (American Institute of Architects) event, though in Miami. And if the event here is half as cool as what we had there, then Ocean Beach is the place to be this Saturday, especially on what promises to be a Miami-esque weekend. Be sure to check out other Architecture and the City events going on the rest of the month, such as the Angel Island Immigration Station Tour and the Sightglass Coffee Tasting + Tour.
Or, just hang out on Ocean Beach all day and augur in the change of seasons with the Bonfire of Reflection at 6:30pm. Stay even longer and celebrate the autumnal equinox at the City Star Party, complete with telescopes for viewing the night sky.
Big Book Sale, Fort Mason
Sponsored by Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, this is bookapalooza for the paper and binding crowd (sorry Kindle cuddlers). Rows and rows of books, and all priced to sell. Enjoy.
Autumn Moon Festival, Chinatown
This is the biggest event in Chinatown. Grant and other streets are blocked off, people are out, food and vendors abound. Sat 11am-6pm.
Folsom Street Fair
This is most definitely NOT a family event. It’s also not for the prudish, as lots of naughty body parts will be exposed for God and all to see, as well as certain public displays of affection that would normally get you a free ride in the back of a black and white. This kinky leatherette event is supposedly the world’s largest. Sun 11am-6pm.
