Top 5 things to do in the Bay Area this weekend

Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival
The town of Half Moon Bay goes all out for its beloved pumpkins this time each year, making it one of the top festivals of the season in the Bay Area. The pumpkin weigh (a national event) is one of the highlights, as well as a carving contest, parade, endless booths, music and entertainment, and a party zone of beer, wine and food. Saturday and Sunday, 10/17-18, 9am-5pm.

A flight of beers from the SF Craft Beer fest

SF Craft Beer Festival
Yay, beer! While you can probably find a beer festival somewhere nearby almost every weekend, the SF Craft Beer fest is one of the best and biggest of its kind. Over 75 breweries young and old from across the country will be offering up a variety of their limited release and seasonal specialty brews. Get informed by experts at the craft concierge center and at one of several seminars, or just enjoy the beer and food from Rosamunde and El Pipila. Saturday, 10/18, 2-4:30pm and 7-9:30pm, Fort Mason.

View of last year’s Treasure Island music fest

Treasure Island Music festival
Outkast and Massive Attack headline the impressive lineup of acts, which also includes TV On The Radio, Zedd and The New Pornographers. As outdoor music festivals go, this is growing into one of the better ones in the Bay Area, and the setting next to the bay is brilliant. Plenty of food and drink sold on site. Saturday and Sunday, 10/18-19, 11am-11pm.

Reading on Valencia during Lit Crawl

Lit Crawl
The climax to Litquake’s weeklong event, Lit Crawl features 101 readings and events in all manner of venues – bars, bookstores, galleries, eateries, police stations – mostly along Valencia in the Mission. Enjoy some poetry, fiction, nonfiction and comedy, (and a cocktail and taco) while supporting Bay Area literary arts. Saturday, 10/18, 6-9:30pm.

Alameda Zombie Bar Crawl
Hey, zombies gotta drink too. And no better place than that all-American, unsuspecting town of Alameda, the perfect setting for any zombie apocalypse. Twelve participating bars will be slaking the thirst of the island’s resident undead. Saturday, 10/17, 8pm-2am.
